Pioneers of independent risk assessments and transparency reporting for online platforms.
The the Internet Commission’s Accountability Reporting set the scene for the risk assessments now required by the EU Digital Services Act and the UK Online Safety Act. Established in 2018, the Internet Commission, focused on ethical business practice and how organisational cultures, systems and processes can best respond to challenges including illegal content, hate speech, cyberbullying and misinformation.
Jonny Shipp, Managing Principal
As the founder and leader of the Internet Commission’s two cycles of accountability reporting, Jonny delivered the evaluation of trust and safety practices across six organisations including Tinder, Twitch and Sony Playstation. He shaped data collection, led the analysis and curated knowledge-sharing workshops.
As a Visiting Fellow at London School of Economics from 2016 – 2024, he contributed to the creation of the EU Digital Services Act and the UK Online Safety Act. Before that, he served six years as the Industry Vice-Chair, Internet Watch Foundation and for 14 years in leadership roles at Telefónica he contributed to UK, European and global action on online trust and safety.
Jonny works with an international network of experts to help organisations to navigate and comply with new and emerging digital regulations in the EU and the UK.
